Policies

Current Vaccinations - Owners verify their pets are currently up to date on all vaccines.

Aggressive or Dangerous Pets - Owners must inform The Dog Box Retreat if their dog bites, has bitten, or has ever shown aggressive behaviour towards people, other pets or specific grooming procedures. The Dog Box Retreat reserves the right to refuse / stop services for such dogs) at any time during the grooming process and charge an aggressive dog fee in addition to the regular charge.

Health problems, Senior and Pregnant dogs - Grooming procedures can be stressful, especially for senior dogs or dogs with health problems (including Pregnancy) and can expose hidden problems or aggravate current ones during or after the groom. Because senior pets and pets with health problems have a greater chance of injury, they will be groomed for cleanliness and comfort, in styles that will not add to their stress. The Dog Box will not be held responsible for injury or stressful effects that grooming may have. The Dog Box Retreat will not be held responsible for any pre-existing conditions and problems found or aggravated during or after grooming.

Matt removal - Pets with matted coats need extra attention during their grooming session and will be charged accordingly. Matts left in a pet's coat only grow tighter and can strangie the pets skin or eventually tear it open.

De-matting is a painful procedure and The Dog Box Retreat does not wish to cause undue stress to your pet so will not continually de-matt your pet for you. Matts can be very difficult to remove and may require your pet to be shaved. Removing matted areas of coat carries risks of nicks, cuts and abrasions due to hidden warts, moles or skin folds trapped under the Matts. Heavy matting can trap moisture near the pets skin allowing fungus and or bacteria to grow, causing skin irritations. After effects of de-matting procedures can include itchiness which can cause your pet to scratch itself and inflict damage to the skin. Sometimes hair will not re-grow the same after being de-matted/shaved. Shaved pets are prone to sunburn and should have sun block applied or should be kept out of direct sunlight. In some cases, pets may exhibit brief behavioural changes. Prevention is the best defence against matting.

Sensitive pets - The Dog Box Retreat takes pride in using the highest quality products for the grooming process and takes all care to prevent harm and will not be held responsible for reactions that may occur to pets with sensitivities.

Parasites - If fleas are found on your pet during the grooming process, your pet will be bathed with a flea killing rinse and you will be charged. The Dog Box Retreat will not be held responsible for reactions that occur from the use of the flea treatment.

Ear plucking / Anal Glands - We advise against ear plucking unless it is recommended by the pets veterinarian.

We will not pluck infected or irritated ears and take no responsibility should the plucking of an ear cause imtation or infection. The Dog Box Retreat is happy to express anal glands upon request but takes no responsibility for infections, irritations or not entirely expressed glands.
